## Having backups is not the same as being able to recover them

Modern ransomware targets backups before encrypting anything else because it knows that is the only way out without paying. If your backups can be deleted or overwritten using the system’s own credentials, they are not a recovery plan; they are just another target.

27%
of organizations that paid a ransom never recovered their data.

- Backup that can be deleted offers no protection whatsoever

- An untested recovery plan is not a plan.

- Recovering late costs almost as much as not recovering at all.

## Two levels of protection, depending on what needs protecting

Not all environments require the same approach, so you can choose the tier per project and have both coexisting within the same account.

### Integrated Backup

Volume backup built directly into the platform, with pre-defined plans and managed from the same dashboard where you create instances.

- Volume backups with pre-defined plans.
- No per-machine licensing costs.
- Configurable retention per project.
- Managed directly from the Aire Cloud dashboard, with no installations required.

### Premium Backup

Comprehensive protection for environments demanding granularity, immutability, and coverage beyond the virtual machine.

- Backups for volumes, files, and databases.
- Ransomware protection through immutability.
- Coverage for Kubernetes, NFS network storage, and S3 object storage.Support for SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle databases.
- Custom plans and advanced monitoring.

## The rule we follow: 3-2-1-1-0[cite: 1]

This is the industry standard ensuring a backup is truly viable on the day it is needed. Here is how it translates in practice:[cite: 1]

3

#### Three copies[cite: 1]

The original data and two additional copies, ensuring a double failure does not leave you empty-handed.[cite: 1]

2

#### Two media types[cite: 1]

Backups live on two different types of storage, not all in the same place.[cite: 1]

1

#### One offsite[cite: 1]

At least one copy is kept in a location separate from the primary site.[cite: 1]

1

#### One immutable[cite: 1]

A copy that cannot be deleted or overwritten for the period you specify, not even with administrator credentials.[cite: 1]

0

#### Zero errors[cite: 1]

Backups are verified, because a backup that fails to restore does not count as a backup.[cite: 1]

IF YOU MANAGE MULTIPLE CLIENTS

## A recurring business line, without building a backup platform

Backup is one of the few things all your clients need, yet almost none want to manage. With Aire, you can resell it under your own brand from the very first client, without investing in infrastructure or buying licenses upfront.

### One dashboard, all your clients[cite: 1]

Each client has a separate environment with their own policies, permissions, and consumption isolated from the rest. You can view the status of all backups from a single screen.[cite: 1]

### Consumption separated by client[cite: 1]

Usage is measured per environment, so you know exactly what to re-invoice to each client without manually splitting a shared bill.[cite: 1]

### White-label at no extra cost[cite: 1]

Your client sees your brand. We remain completely invisible in the commercial relationship.[cite: 1]

### Auto-scaling licenses[cite: 1]

You are only billed for the licenses consumed, in full monthly periods, meaning onboarding and offboarding clients won't leave you overpaying.[cite: 1]

WHEN A BACKUP IS NOT ENOUGH

## Recovering is not restoring a file; it is restoring operations

A backup gives you your data back. A disaster recovery plan gets your service running again, with machines booting in the correct order in another data center. They are two different things, and it is highly recommended to have both. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of having a DR plan in place to ensure the possibility of full recovery.

### Recovery within Aire Cloud

For infrastructure already hosted in our cloud. We replicate data between our two Madrid regions, linked by our own proprietary fiber ring.

- Incremental replication: only the modified blocks are transferred.
- Orchestrated boot in the secondary data center, and failback to the primary once the issue is resolved.
- No need to install agents inside the virtual machines.
- Recovery drills performed in isolated environments, without affecting production.

### Recovery from external sources

For infrastructure currently sitting in your own server room or with another provider, using VMware or OS-level agents.

- Replication from VMware, Windows, and Linux environments.
- Continuous synchronization to ensure a recent recovery point.
- Data lands directly in our cloud, ready to boot.
- Uptime availability of up to 99.99%.

## Your backups never leave Spain

Repositories are located in Aire’s proprietary data centers, featuring end-to-end encrypted connections without the need to set up a VPN or leave your firewall wide open.

FAQ

## Frequently asked questions

Get answers to your technical queries about **Aire Cloud Backup**

### Can I resell Aire's backup to my clients under my own brand?

Yes, and the white-label option comes at no extra cost. Each client operates in a separate environment within your account, with isolated backup policies, permissions, and consumption metrics, allowing you to re-invoice them exactly for what they use. Your client sees your brand, and we do not appear in the commercial relationship.

### What do I need to start selling backups if I have never done it before?

No infrastructure or initial investment is required. You are only charged for the licenses you consume on a monthly basis, meaning you can start with a single client and scale up from there. We provide the platform, the training, and Tier 2 technical support.

### What does it mean for a backup to be immutable?

It means that for the timeframe you specify, it cannot be modified or deleted, not even using administrator credentials. This is a specific defense against ransomware, as modern encryption attacks target backups first to leave you with no way out. A backup that can be erased with system credentials offers no protection in that scenario.

### What is the 3-2-1-1-0 rule?

It is the industry standard that ensures a backup works when you actually need it: three copies of the data, on two different media types, with one located offsite, one of them immutable, and zero errors during verification. This is the benchmark we use to design our protection policies.

### What happens if my Microsoft 365 data is deleted?

Microsoft guarantees the availability of the service, not the recovery of deleted data. If someone deletes a mailbox, a SharePoint site, or OneDrive files and the retention period expires, there is no going back. That is why Microsoft 365 emails and documents require their own dedicated backup, independent of the service provider.

### What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?

A backup restores your data, while disaster recovery restores your operational services. You use a backup to restore files or virtual machines when needed. With a disaster recovery plan, machines boot up in a secondary data center, in the correct sequence, and with pre-configured networking, so your business continues to operate while the incident is resolved.

### Where are the backups physically stored?

In Aire’s own proprietary data centers located in Spain. The connection to the repository is encrypted end-to-end and does not require setting up a VPN or leaving your firewall wide open. All infrastructure remains strictly within the European Union and is subject to its data protection regulations.

### Can I verify that the recovery works without impacting production?

Yes. Recovery drills are executed in an isolated environment, allowing you to verify that machines boot and applications respond without disrupting live operations. This is the only way to truly know if a recovery plan works before an actual emergency occurs.

### What can be protected besides virtual machines?

Volumes, individual files, SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle databases, Kubernetes clusters, NFS network storage, and S3 object storage. Databases are backed up in a consistent state so they boot without corruption, rather than just as a flat file.

### What are RPO and RTO, and who decides them?

RPO (Recovery Point Objective) is the maximum amount of data you can afford to lose, measured in time, while RTO (Recovery Time Objective) is the maximum time it should take to resume operations. We define these metrics with you in writing during the service design phase, prior to signing, as these two numbers dictate the required architecture and the cost of the protection.

### Can I protect infrastructure that is not hosted in Aire Cloud?

Yes. We replicate from VMware, Windows, and Linux environments located in your own server room or with another provider, using continuous replication that leaves the data primed and ready in our cloud. This is the standard approach to building a disaster recovery plan without moving your production environment.
